The Soldier’s Song  (Irish National Anthem) --- Peadar Kearney

We’ll [G]sing a song, a [C]soldier’s [G]song

With [C]cheering, [G]rousing [D]chorus.

As [G]‘round our blazing [C]fires we [G]throng,

The [D]starry heavens o’er us.

Im-[C]patient for the [G]coming fight,

And [D]as we wait the morning’s light,

Here [G]in the silence [C]of the [G]night,

We will chant a [D]soldier’s [G]song.

[G]Soldiers are we, whose [C]lives are pledged to [G]Ireland

            [D]Some have [Em]come from a [D]land beyond the [D7]waves.

[G]Sworn to be free, no [C]more our ancient [G]sireland

Shall [D]shelter the despot or the [D7]slave.

To-[C]night we man the [G]bearna baoghal,

In [D]Erin’s cause, come [D7]woe or weal.

            ‘Mid [G]cannons’ roar and [C]rifles’ [G]peal,

We will chant a [D]soldier’s [G]song.

In [G]valley green or [C]towering [G]crag,

Our [C]fathers [G]fought be-[D]fore us.

And [G]conquered ‘neath the [C]same old [G]flag,

That’s [D]proudly floating o’er us.

We’re [C]children of a [G]fighting race,

That [D]never yet has known disgrace.

And [G]as we march, the [C]foe to [G]face,

Sons [G]of the Gael! Men [C]of the [G]Pale!

The [C]long-watched [G]day is [D]breaking.

The [G]serried ranks of [C]Innis-[G]fail,

Shall [D]set the tyrant quaking.

Our [C]campfires now are [G]burning low,

See [D]in the East a silv’ry glow.

Out [G]yonder waits the [C]Saxon [G]foe,

So chant a [D]soldier’s [G]song.
