The Asteroid Light

ttto: The Keeper of the Eddystone Light

My [G]father was the keeper of the Asteroid Light,

He [C]slept with a [D7]Martian [C]one fine night.

Out of this match came children three.

Two were [D7]mutants and the [G]other was me.

[A7]Yo, ho, ho, the [D]jets run free;

          [D7]Oh, for the life at the [G]speed of c!

[G]When I was but a space cadet,

They [C]put me in [D7]charge of a [C]proton jet;

I cleaned the tubes and filled them with fuel,

And picked my [D7]teeth with an [G]old slide rule.

[A7]Yo, ho, ho, the [D]jets run free;

          [D7]Oh, for the life at the [G]speed of c!

One [G]night as I was heading for the Moon

And [C]singing a [D7]well known [C]spaceman's tune,

I heard a voice cry out of the void,

And there sat my [D7]mother on her [G]asteroid.

[A7]Yo, ho, ho, the [D]jets run free;

          [D7]Oh, for the life at the [G]speed of c!

"Oh, [G]what has become of my children three?"

[C]My mother [D7]then she [C]asked of me.

"One is on exhibit in a zoo on Venus,

And the other keeps a [D7]telepathic [G]link between us."

[A7]Yo, ho, ho, the [D]jets run free;

          [D7]Oh, for the life at the [G]speed of c!

The [G]deuterons flashed in her hydrogen hair;

I [C]looked a-[D7]gain, and my [C]mother wasn't there.

But she telepathed angrily out of the night,

"Then to hell with the [D7]keeper of the [G]Asteroid Light!"
