John Hardy

[D]John [G]Hardy was a [D]desperate little man,

He [G]carried two guns every [D]day,

He [G]killed a man on the [D]West Virginia line,

You ought to see John Hardy gettin' away,

You ought to see John [G]Hardy gettin' a-[D]way.

Well, John [G]Hardy run for that [D]old state line,

It was [G]there he thought he'd go [D]free,

But a [G]man walked up and [D]took him by the arm,

Saying "Johnny come andwalk along with me,

Johnny come and [G]walk along with [D]me."

Well the [G]first one to visit John [D]Hardy in his cell,

Was a [G]little girl all dressed in [D]blue,

She [G]came down to that [D]old jail cell,

Singing "Johnny, I've been true to you, Lord knows,

Johnny I've been [G]true to [D]you."

Then the [G]next one to visit John [D]Hardy in his cell,

A [G]little girl dressed all in [D]red,

She [G]came down to that [D]old jail cell,

Singing "Johnny, I had rather see you dead,

God knows, Johnny I had [G]rather see you [D]dead."

John [G]Hardy stood in his [D]old jail cell,

The [G]tears running down from his [D]eyes,

He said [G]''I've been the death of [D]many poor boys,

But my six-shooter never told a lie,

No my six shooter [G]never told a [D]lie."

John [G]Hardy was a [D]desperate little man,

He [G]carried two guns every [D]day,

Well, he [G]blowed down a man on the [D]West Virginia line,

You ought to seen John Hardy getting away,

You ought to seen John [G]Hardy getting a-[D]way.
